United Lisbon International School is proud to announce that it was selected after a tough process of accreditation to be a Microsoft Showcase School.

Microsoft Showcase Schools are a global community of schools engaged in innovative change to continuously improve teaching and learning. Microsoft Showcase Schools create immersive and inclusive experiences that inspire lifelong learning, stimulating development of essential life skills so students are empowered to achieve more. Famous global examples of Microsoft Showcase Schools are Dulwich College in the UK and O’Dea High School in Seattle, Washington, USA.

Some of the benefits to the ULIS community of part of this program are:

  • ULIS gets to avail of shared insights, best practices, and engage in local or global Microsoft events.
  • ULIS will enjoy Microsoft partner offers and product support, digital transformation guidance and access to resources and latest research.
  • ULIS can help shape the future of Microsoft education products and programs, contribute to the vision of schools and students around the world, and elevate the school’s visibility and role as a leader in the industry.

To become a Microsoft Showcase School, ULIS had to actively be part of a year-long Showcase Incubator Path, a challenging and extensive accreditation program that constantly evaluated the school’s progress in the implementation of the Microsoft Education Transformation Framework (“ETF”). The ETF is designed to support school communities working toward transformational change by following development and evolution through the Microsoft Showcase School Rubrics, quantitative and qualitative metrics that represent the profile of successful transformative criteria in education.

The categories of development included Leadership & Policy, Teaching & Learning, Intelligent Environments, and Student & School Success.

ULIS joins an exclusive global community, recognized and celebrated for their educational transformation, which includes vision and innovation in teaching, learning and assessment, computational and critical thinking, creativity and collaboration and a willingness to promote a growth mindset among educators and students.

As an international school in Lisbon being recognised for its forward-looking program with a large focus on technology, coding, drama, entrepreneurial thinking and other skills for the future, ULIS already has 300 students on board across 30+ nationalities for its 2nd academic year. ULIS’s faculty is truly international and with its unparalleled facilities that enable the teaching community to implement transformational learning at the highest level, ULIS is looking forward to reaching continuously new heights in the next years. Best Urban Adaptive Reuse Award

Further recognition for the Group was United Lisbon International School’s winning of the Best Urban Adaptive Reuse – Commerce and Services award.

Architect Eduardo Capinha Lopes transformed the original building while maintaining the original façade by modernist architect Carlos Ramos.

The renovation project did not spare any costs or efforts in creating large, spacious, and light-filled classrooms for students while focusing on the latest network system architecture, furniture, and fittings. The award-winning façade has been maintained while completely remodelling the inside for significant improvements and interior architectural features, such as the “open ceiling” and other features. It enjoys 6,500 sqm (71,000 sqft) of fabulous outdoor spaces created for sport and outdoor play for the different age groups and plans are underway for a further 2,000 sqm (22,000 sqft) of sports-related facilities in the future.

The developers have created learning spaces and collaborative learning hubs, art studios, state-of-the art science laboratories, a maker space with innovative equipment such as a 3D printer, Beebots and a laser cutter. The faculty is using all this hardware to build an advanced learning community which allows students to grow and develop in our ever-changing world and go on to become lifelong learners.
