At Léman International School Chengdu, as a truly international school, we have over 30 nationalities of students studying with us. We pride ourselves on diversity and all that it brings to enrich the education of each student at our school.

Last Monday, we welcomed over 200 parents to our campus to celebrate our diversity and enjoy the family picnic together with all the students and staff on our lower soccer field. Sitting on the blankets and watching the student performances and bands is a great joy. Families also had the opportunity to do face painting, fly kites, and participate in a range of sports activities such as badminton and tug of war. Our upper primary students even performed a teaser of the Pirate of Curry Bean which will be officially open to guests this Wednesday and Thursday.

Having such a diverse student body, our students are exposed to different perspectives. When students from diverse backgrounds come together in the classroom, they bring with them different experiences, beliefs, and perspectives. This broadens the learning experience for all students and promotes greater understanding and tolerance of different cultures and ways of thinking.

The diverse culture of our school also improves critical thinking. When students are exposed to different perspectives, they are forced to think critically about their own understandings, outlooks and assumptions. This can lead to a deeper understanding of the subject matter and can help students develop more nuanced and thoughtful arguments.

We can see from our students daily interactions and achievements that diversity of culture, country and race also enhances creativity in the classroom. When students are exposed to different cultures and ways of thinking, they are more likely to come up with innovative ideas and solutions.

But we believe that one of the most important things which diversity gives our students is readiness for the real world. In today's globalised world, it is increasingly important for students to be able to work with people from different cultures and backgrounds. By experiencing diversity in the classroom, students are better prepared for the real world and for working in a diverse and multicultural environment. We know that many of our students go to universities and into the workforce abroad, and we want our students to be emotionally, socially and academically prepared for that.

At Léman, we are very proud of the diverse nature of our school and student body, which adds enrichment to our educational experience for all students, preparing them for success in an increasingly diverse and interconnected world.
