A discussion of equity and inclusion at The International School of Kuala Lumpur

Posted on 17th Jan 2023 in School News, Malaysia

In line with the 2022 Inclusive Schools Week theme, 'Unity Within Our Community', The International School of Kuala Lumpur (ISKL) held a special VOX ISKL panel discussion centering on equity and inclusion. VOX ISKL is a platform that inspires, ignites, and informs others of current issues and trends.

The audience heard from an inspirational line-up of panelists, including two Malaysian Paralympians, specialists in learning differences, as well as an ISKL parent of a neurodiverse child. The panelists shared their perspectives on what inclusion looks and feels like for them, the language and cultural sensitivities we need to be aware of when talking about race, disability, mental health, and neurodiversity, and how to advocate for a child with learning differences.

Aligned with the school’s student-centered philosophy, VOX was moderated by two of ISKL’s High School student leaders whose curiosity, insights, and ability to synthesise key points guided the discussion and helped deepen understanding and learning about the diverse perspectives and identities of others.

Recording of the VOX panel discussion and previous VOX events are available on ISKL’s YouTube and Spotify channels. Head over to www.iskl.edu.my/community/events/ to learn more about events at ISKL.
