The Friends' School, Tasmania, Australia

Situated in the heart of Hobart in Tasmania, The Friends' School is an independent, coeducational day and boarding school for students from Early Learning to Year 12.

A strong sense of community at the school provides a rich and stimulating environment for students. The school's philosophy aims to develop the whole person and for students to show a willingness to contribute to something greater than the individual. We offer a diverse range of co-curricular activities including sports, student-led committees, social functions and service opportunities. Our hope is that our students will leave the school with a broad understanding of and empathy for the Quaker testimonies of Simplicity, Peace, Integrity, Community, Equality and Stewardship.

Who We Are

Guided by Quaker values, The Friends' School thrives on an intrinsic spirit of warmth and friendliness, and its strong community atmosphere reflects the intentions of the founding Quakers whose original vision for the school in 1887 was an education for spiritual and intellectual growth.

We are proud of our consistently high academic results, varied curriculum and co-curricular opportunities, but we are prouder still of our students and all that they go on to achieve.

Our Location

The Friends' School is hidden in the picturesque city of Hobart in the heart of Tasmania, which has a worldwide reputation as a clean, safe and beautiful capital city, making it the perfect study destination.

Tasmania offers spectacular, unique mountain and coastal scenery, with extensive national parks and World Heritage Areas protecting the island's wilderness. Our enriching Outdoor Education program takes full advantage of our beautiful and diverse landscapes.

Our Learning Experience

Students of The Friends' School are offered high levels of flexibility and support so that they may pursue individual interests and passions. We encourage students to challenge themselves academically while exploring the many opportunities available to them through the school.

Students entering into Year 11 have three academic pathways available to them: The Tasmanian Certificate of Education (TCE), the International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme (IBDP) or varied Vocational Education and Training (VET) programs that they can complete alongside their TCE.

The Quaker Difference

The school celebrates the academic success of our students, while still valuing the individual strengths and abilities of each child in our care.

The commitment to connecting with the good in each person and nurturing their 'inner light' is a central aspect of what makes a Friends' education so special. The Quaker commitment to equality is also core to The Friends' School and is demonstrated in the respectful relationships that develop between students and other members of the Friends' community.
