Pan-American School was founded in 1971 and offers an inclusive education to students from 1.5 to 18 years. Our 35,000 m2 purpose-built campus is designed for learning in harmony with nature and is strategically located in the western suburbs of San José close to multiple residential areas, multinational business parks and free zones.

We offer the PYP, MYP and DP, grounded in the unique context and values of Costa Rica, and students can graduate with the IB Diploma, US High School Diploma, and the Costa Rican Bachillerato.

We pride ourselves on developing English-Spanish bilingual learners, equipped for success in an ever-changing world. Our broad and rigorous curriculum includes rigorous programmes focused on developing: skills for life; social, emotional and physical wellbeing; arts, design, and physical education; a unique focus on service and global sustainability. All students and staff engage in service projects every year, ensuring that our core values positively impact the world around us.

Sports and wellbeing form an essential part of life at Pan-American School. We offer: afternoon sports programmes for all students from PreKinder to Grade 5; competitive sports training for Secondary School students; and a Morning Fitness programme for all Secondary School students which facilitates a developmentally-appropriate start to the day’s learning. Our students compete nationally and internationally: in 2022 our female Basketball and Volleyball teams were crowned AASCA champions of Central America, and in 2023 our female Soccer and Volleyball teams won third place. PAS students also won regional competitions in swimming, tennis, frisbee, and chess.

We prepare students to respond to challenges with optimism and an open mind, who are confident in their own identities, make ethical decisions, join with others in celebrating our common humanity and are prepared to apply what they learn in real-world, complex and unpredictable situations.

Our diversity is our greatest strength, and we welcome students from all backgrounds, ensuring that we provide for their individual needs via our caring and dedicated team of educators, learning and emotional support, and language acquisition specialists.
