There is a large international school sector providing for children of expatriates in Kuwait, where state schools are reserved for Kuwaitis.
International schools are accredited by the Private Education Department of the Ministry of Education, which oversees and regulates staff qualifications, school facilities and fees.
Many schools follow British, American and international curriculums, and there are a number of foreign schools that follow their home country curricula.
There are four IB World Schools, all of which teach in English: American Creativity Academy, which offers the Diploma Programme; the American International School of Kuwait, which offers the Primary Years, Middle Years and Diploma Programmes; Kuwait Bilingual School, which offers the Primary Years and Middle Years Programmes; and Reborn Kids Education Academy (RKEA), which offers the PYP.
There are three levels of education: Elementary, Intermediate and Secondary, and each leel involves four years of study. Children in Kuwait must attend school at age six until they are fourteen. Pre-school is available from age four to age six, and students who complete their basic education may carry on to higher education.
