Southlands British International School was founded in 1976 with a strong commitment to provide the rigour and values of a British education with a truly international outlook. We provide an immersive English education to children from the ages of three through to 18. Our students hail from all over the world and are encouraged to find their place in it through a provision grounded in global citizenship and international mindedness. Following the English National curriculum to the age of 16, followed by the IBDP, our students achieve outstanding results in a personalised and caring environment. We value Honesty, Kindness and Respect, and believe in the power of student voice, collaboration and creativity.

The school is located in the south of Rome, in a rural setting: our students truly have space to grow in every sense. We believe that learning should extend beyond the classroom: Outdoor learning features heavily in our Early Years and Primary provision, with lessons and activities happening in our dedicated learning gardens every day. A refreshed programme of co curricular activities within and outside the school day ensures that students develop new skills and build a broad range of interests, alongside supporting the community through service learning opportunities.

Our unique location means we are the only international school in the city to offer outdoor and adventure education as part of the curriculum. Trail biking, bouldering, surfing and stand up paddle are an integral part of our PE curriculum. Adventure learning in our on-campus Forest School helps students to develop essential qualities to navigate life while emphasising the importance of an ecologically sustainable future through learning grounded in nature.

Southlands is also fortunate to be part of the Globeducate group of schools: a worldwide family, which enables us to provide outstanding opportunities for students and staff to connect with partners including WWF, participate in workshops, exchanges, competitions, and build relationships to support growth and success. This is also useful for families who are moving around the world as we are increasingly able to support them with a school move when transferring to new placements.
